The Advetage Solutions team is looking to add a Medical Radiation Safety Officer to our team! Medical Radiation Safety Officer (MRSO) to support the VA Health Care System to oversee all radiation-related operations across several facilities. The RSO will ensure compliance with federal regulations, VA directives, and safety standards related to the use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in medical applications. Experience as an RSO in a healthcare system and demonstrated knowledge of Federal radiation safety regulations, including NRC and NHPP standards is highly recommended.
Key Responsibilities:
· Serve as Chair of the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC), conducting quarterly meetings and reporting to the Environment of Care (EOC) Committee.
· Oversee radiation safety procedures for Nuclear Medicine, CT, MRI, Mammography, and Fluoroscopy across all EOVAHCS sites.
· Monitor and report on employee radiation exposure, including badge readings and training for overexposures.
· Ensure compliance with ALARA principles and manufacturer QA standards for all radiation-producing equipment.
· Conduct or supervise radiation surveys, audits, and inspections, including post-repair evaluations.
· Provide training and instruction on radiation safety regulations and practices.
· Respond to radiation-related incidents and ensure timely reporting of overexposures and sentinel events.
· Maintain organized records of monitoring, surveys, and corrective actions.
· Be available onsite within 48 hours of notification for inspections or emergencies.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
· Hold a bachelor’s or graduate degree in physical science, engineering, or biological science Minimum 2 years of experience as an RSO in a healthcare system of comparable size and complexity.
· 5 or more years of professional experience in health physics (up to 2 years of graduate training may count), including at least 3 years in applied health physics.
· Has a current NRC 313a form for RSOs, specifically with experience in diagnostics and nuclear medicine.
· Demonstrated knowledge of Federal radiation safety regulations, including NRC and NHPP standards.
· Ability to conduct training, audits, and inspections independently.
